It is important to be mindful of what we eat becuase the foods we put into our body can affect us in so many ways. I like to be healthy and try to eat “well” on a regular basis, so I was really excited to talk to holistic nutritionist, Amber Young to see what tips she could give me. A short video is below, but if you would like to learn more about Amber and holistic nutrition you can visit her webiste Young Nutrition.
P.S. Amber is 6 months pregnant with her first child and I asked her what to eat when you are expecting. She suggested seasonal, organic and unrefined foods.
I know a few people who are rooting for the Broncos and a few who are cheering for the Panthers, but I also know quite a few who are watching the Superbowl for the commercials. Everyone knows some of the best ads air during the biggest football game of the year and a few are already beginning to get some buzz. Pantene’s newest commercial was released yesterday and it is definitely going to be one of the most adorable Super Bowl ads you will see this Sunday.
Are you more excited for the football game or the commercials?
Since my main focus has been New York Fashion Week this week and London Fashion Week starts today I thought it would be fitting to post a short video about what goes into creating a fashion show and how to break into the fashion industry starring Alexa Chung. Alexa Chung is a fashion model, television host and contributing editor at British Vogue. She is one of the fashion “it” girls and I can’t wait to see more episodes of her new series.
Have you ever had the desire to work in the fashion industry?
One of my roommates from FIT helped with the flowers for this amazing dog wedding and I couldn’t help but share the video because it so so sweet. The dogs are delightful and the decorations are impeccably done. I hope this makes you smile and have a lovely weekend.
Fitness is a way of life for me. I grew up playing sports and workout on a regular basis. I am not one to go to the gym and love to exercise at home. I get my cardio by going on daily hikes/walks with my dog and make sure to keep my muscles toned by doing different workouts everyday. I don’t like doing the same routine all of the time, so I am always looking for new moves to keep me from getting bored and couldn’t wait to meet with Heather Hagan, a personal trainer at Silver Mountain Sports Club to learn a few new exercises just in time for the Summer. Heather said most people like to get results quickly, so she wanted to teach me exercises that get a lot of muscles moving, burn a lot of calories and tones. To get fast results she recommends to get at least 30-40 minutes of cardio before you start these workouts and to do 3 sets of 10-12 reps of each. She also said about 75% off weight loss is your diet, so if you want to lose weight make sure you eat healthy as well as workout regularly. Below are the three exercises Heather taught me that I can’t wait to do at home.
What do you do to workout?
Begin by lifting your hips off of the ground, engage core and glutes to keep the ball balanced. Place your feet on top of the ball and your hands at your sides for stability. While keeping your hips high hinge one knee towards your chest and march one foot off of the ball with control. If you are unable to keep the ball in control you can place it against the wall or have someone hold it.
With this exercise you are simply transferring the ball from your hands to your feet. Lie down on your back on the mat with the ball in your hands over your head and legs straight out. Take a deep inhale to set core and lift arms and legs while exhaling and transfer the ball from your hands to your feet. Keep your arms and legs completely straight as your lifting a lowering. If you have lower back problems or would like to do an easier version you can bend your legs when you are lifting and lowering.
Start by facing the mat with your hands on the floor and fingertips nice and wide. Place your feet on the ball with your shoelaces down and lift your body up into a plank position. Engage core muscles and pull the ball in and then back out. Lift one leg and then do a push up. Pull the ball in again, back out, lift your other leg and finish with a push up. If you would like an easier version you can bend your knees on the mat for added stability when doing the push up or ask a friend to hold the ball while moving in and out.
My good friend Heidi Gress throws an event every year called Art Meets Fashion. This year Art Meets Fashion premiered three collections. The first was by Davis Hong, an emerging, local designer and first recipient of the Fashion Entrepreneurial Mentorship program. The second was entitled Redefining Man and featured pieces from local boutiques. The final show was the US premiere of Nigerian designer Kinabuti.
The Art Meets Fashion Foundation is a non profit organization and chooses a different charity to give to each year. For 2015 the Art Meets Fashion Foundation launched a new entrepreneurial mentorship and global documentary program.
“The Art Meets Fashion foundation is committed to creating a sustainable artistic industry locally and documenting stories from across the globe from other organizations that are impacting their community through art and fashion. Through documentary work— photography, film making, narrative writing, visual art, dance and music, Art Meets Fashion aims to raise not only awareness and financial support for these organizations but also to secure Utah’s place in an ever growing global landscape.” -Heidi Gress
One of the main goals of the Art Meets Fashion Foundation is to expand globalization on a local and global level by creating jobs through fashion. I love the way the Art Meets Fashion Foundation is opening the minds of young people locally and globally and allowing them to see the possibilities which will help them rework their life into something positive. To be able to give someone a skill set and then give them a job is absolutely wonderful. Most of the time you hear about people learning a skill, but don’t have anything to do with it when they are done with their schooling. The Art Meets Fashion Foundation is now giving people the tools to be successful.
Art Meets Fashion is growing every year and I can’t wait to see what next year holds. Here is a short video about the event and if you are in Utah you won’t want to miss Art Meets Fashion 2016.
I had such a wonderful time during the Sundance Film Festival last week and was able to interview so many amazing people. I was lucky enough to chat with Kari Feinstein who is the owner of Kari Feinsten Public Relations. I really admire her for everything she has done, so it meant a lot to chat with her about her career. If you would like to learn more about Kari and hear what advice she has for young women who want to start their own business you can watch the full interview below.
The holiday season seems to be a very stressful time for many, so to ease the stress I like to do things that make me smile. Below is a silly video that made my giggle and forget about the stress the holidays bring for about 2 minutes. I hope it helps you forget about any stresses in your life and enjoy the season; even it is for just 2 minutes.
What do you do to make the holidays less stressful?
When I first watched the trailer for Disney’s live action Cinderella I immediately fell in love. The trailer is pure magic and the gowns are absolutely wonderful. Oscar winning Sandy Powell is the genius behind the gorgeous costumes in the new movie, starring Lily James, Cate Blanchett, Helena Bonham Carter and directed by Kenneth Branaugh. The release date is March 13th 2015, so we will have to wait a few more months to see more of Sandy Powell’s beautiful designs, but in the mean time we can continue to watch the trailer to see some of that Disney magic.
