I was so happy to be able to attend the 11th annual HRC Gala this weekend. The speakers were phenomenal and everyone was celebrating the ruling made by the Supreme Court regarding same sex marriage. The decision by the Supreme Court is a big step and each speaker spoke about how wonderful it is, but all of the speeches really centered on how much more work needs to be done nationally and internationally. We still have a long way to go before society passes judgement based purely on the individual. But for today, one victory at a time.
Summer is one of my favorite seasons of the year. It is a time for sun dresses, bbq’s, camping, vacations, the pool and so much more. Whether it’s a love affair, a tale about friends or a summer of fun every summer has it’s own story. This summer I am planning on writing a story about experiencing all that I can and not letting anything hold me back.
Fathers’ Day and the first day of Summer are next weekend! I am so excited for summer and celebrating Father’s Day will be a nice way to start the funfilled season ahead. I am a “daddy’s girl” and my father is always the first person I go to for advice, so I thought a quote about something strong, like a father would be fitting for today.
Wedding season is upon us and today is National Best Friends day, so I chose a quote that could go with both. I have a handful of friends I consider my best friends and my husband is definitely one of them. Although I have many different friends this quote is fitting for all of my besties.
I recently heard a story about a young boy who stood on the side of the road with a sign that read: Smile, You are Beautiful. So why was he there? He said he used to be bullied and he wanted to make a difference in people’s lives, so why not make people smile and let them know that they are beautiful and loved. What an incredible thing to do! I thought this was such a simple act of kindness which touched so many people and after it was posted on social media it reached even more. It made me think of what we could do everyday to make people smile and feel appreciated, so I thought to find a quote to remind us to spread the love.
The Met Gala is one of the biggest fashion events of the year and one of my absolute favorites. The theme is different every year and I love to see what each fashion designer has come up with. It is one of the events where the designers and celebrities take fashion risks and tap into their creative genius. This year the theme is “China:Through the Looking Glass”. In honor of the Met Gala I wanted to post a quote from the chair of the event since 1995, Anna Wintour.
When the sky is gloomy and the rain is pouring it can be hard to be positive, but I find it important to play in the rain. One of my most memorable days living in New York City was a day when a rain storm came out of nowhere, so I wasn’t prepared at all. I had an internship about 35 blocks away from where I lived and loved to walk there and back. It began to rain about half way through my walk back home and I didn’t have any other choice but to feel the rain and take it in. People thought I was crazy because I didn’t have an umbrella or jacket and was soaked, but just kept smiling. I took that walk many times, but the rainy day was by far the most memorable and my favorite. When I am going through a challenging time I think of the rainy day in NYC and this quote because they remind me to live in the moment and to appreciate everything the world has to offer.
