Five Things To Do In October

Greetings Breezles,

L.M Montgomery said “I’m so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers” and I 100% agree. October is one of my favorite months because the seasons are changing and there are always so many fun things to do.  A list of five of my favorite things to do in October is below and I would love to hear what you love to do during the month of October.

, E

Bake Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies

I really enjoy baking, but I like it even more when it is cold outside.  There is nothing better than smelling the aroma of freshly baked goodies and it is so nice to come home to a jar of home made cookies.  This time of year is the time for pumpkins, so I always bake a few batches of pumpkin chocolate chip cookies in October.

Attend an Oktoberfest

In Germany Oktoberfest officially starts in September and goes until the first week of October, but many cities put a weekend aside to celebrate in October.  Where else can you do the chicken dance while wearing lederhosen and eat authentic German cuisine?

Go Apple Picking

October is when Apples are at their best and many orchards allow people to pick their own.  Some will also host fun attractions like hay rides, corn mazes and sell fresh apple cider.

Plan a Halloween Costume For You And/Or Your Furry Friend

I have loved dressing up ever since I was young and look forward to designing the “perfect” costume for Halloween.  I am not fond of store bought costumes, so I usually design something myself with pieces I have bought at vintage stores or sew my costume with the help of a pattern.  My husband likes couples costumes and this year we have Bella, so we are trying to figure out a costume that works with the three of us.

Pick A Pumpkin From A Pumpkin Patch And Carve It

You can buy pumpkins from your local grocery store, but when you can pink your pumpkin out of a real pumpkin patch it really adds to the excitement of Halloween.   After you find your perfect pumpkin carve out your favorite design and put it on display for everyone to see.

Would you Eat a Grain Free, Gluten Free, Sugar Free Diet?

Good Morning Breezles,

I feel like I have a healthy diet, but know I could do better, so when I heard about “The Art of Eating Well” by Melissa and Jasmine Hemsley I had to buy it. The Hemsley’s are London based sisters who support a grain-free, gluten-free, sugar-free approach to diet.  They are private chefs to many celebrities and have been featured food bloggers for Vogue UK as well as many other publications.   Their book includes 150 recipes, tips on what to eat to feel better, information about what different foods do to our body and so much more. My copy arrived yesterday and I am so excited to start making some scrumptious meals for my family.  I can’t wait to try the quinoa risotto balls, the muffin frittatas, the salted apricot caramels and the baked broccoli fritters with spicy avocado dip.  Yum!!!!

Would you take the Hemsley Challenge?

The Five New Television Shows I am Looking Forward to this Fall

Good Morning Breezles,

One of my guilty pleasures is watching evening television.  My husband doesn’t particularly enjoy it, so I don’t ask him to watch any of “my shows”, but when I have time to myself it’s always nice to get a chance find out what my favorite TV characters are up to. A few of my favorite shows are Scandal, Modern Family and Hart of Dixie.

Scroll down to see the five new shows I am eager to get into and I would love to hear about what new shows you are most excited for this fall.

How to Get Away with Murder on ABC

Begins Thursday, September 25th at 10/9c on ABC

When I first saw the previews for How to Get Away with Murder I immediately thought of Scandal (probably because it is created by the same person, Shonda Rhimes) and I got so excited to have another legal thriller with a strong female lead to watch.  Viola Davis stars as Professor Annalise Keating a serious law professor whose students work hard for her approval and desk at her prestigious law firm.  Little do any of them know that they will have to apply what they learned in class to real life.

The Cosmopolitans

Began Thursday, August 28th Streaming on Amazon Instant Video

Starring Adam Brody, Chloe Sevigny and Dree Hemingway, The Cosmopolitans is about a group of young Americans looking for love and friendships in modern Paris.  Adam Brody is always fun to watch and Chloe Sevigny is absolutely fabulous, so having a show with the two of them in Paris is enough for me to say oui oui. The pilot is available to watch now on Amazon prime.

Outlander

Began Saturday, August 9th at 9pm ET on Starz

A good friend of mine fell in love with reading the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon and said she couldn’t wait to begin to watch the television series, so I am very intrigued to watch it myself.  Set in Scotland, Outlander is the story about Claire Randall, a married combat nurse from 1945 who mysteriously goes back in time to 1743. She has to find ways to survive and is forced to marry Jamie, a young Scottish warrior.  She now has to decide if she wants to stay with Jamie in 1743 or go back to her husband in 1945.

Gotham

Begins Tonight,  Monday, September 22nd at 8/7c on Fox

In the Batman movies Commissioner Gordon was head of the Gotham PD, but how did he become commissioner?  Gotham follows Gordon’s rise from police rookie to commissioner in a city teetering on the edge of complete corruption and chronicles the birth of my favorite superhero, Batman.  Gotham will be a show both my husband I will be able to enjoy and it doesn’t hurt that another OC alum, Ben McKenzie plays Commissioner Gordon.

A to Z

Begins Thursday, October 2nd at 9/8c on NBC

This romantic comedy tells the story of the relationship between Andrew, a secret romantic who believes in destiny and Zelda, a no nonsense lawyer who likes to be her own person.  The pair will date for eight months, three weeks, five days and one hour and the program will follow their relationship from the beginning to the end.    If you liked Celeste and Jesse Forever there is a good chance you will enjoy this because Rashida Jones and Will McCormack wrote C and J and they are two of the five executive producers.  Andrew is played by Ben Feldman (Mad Men, The Mindy Project and Zelda is played by Cristin Milioti (The Wolf of Wall Street, How I Met Your Mother).

Five Flowers to Plant this Fall

Good Morning  Breezles,

My husband and I were able to have a relaxing day at home with Bella on Sunday, so we thought it would be the best time to start planning our garden.  We moved into our home about a year ago and had to get some landscaping done before we were able to start planting flowers, so I am excited to start planting flowers we can enjoy next spring.

Scroll down to see which flowers we are going to plant in our garden this fall.

What flowers are you planning on planting this fall?

, E

Hydrangeas

We would like to have a shrub in one of our gardens and hydrangeas are great for us because they are two in one.  They act as a beautiful green shrub some of the year and produce a gorgeous flower mid-summer through fall (when not much else is in bloom).

 Daffodils

Daffodils have always been one of my favorite flowers because I used to find the word daffodil so fun to say as a child.  I find them to be happy flowers and they are a wonderful sign that spring has arrived.

Hyacinths

I remember my mom cutting hyacinths’ from her garden, putting them into a vase and having them on display without any other flowers because they smell so good.  I am looking forward to having these in our garden, so I can fill our house with their sweet smell when spring comes around.

Peonies

Peonies are an absolutely stunning flower and always take my breath away.  They are another flowering shrub, but instead of blooming in the summer they come out in the spring.  I am going to plant this as well as hydrangeas, so we have flowers all spring/summer long.

Tulips

I have a lot of love for tulips.  My mother in law always says “they look like two lips, get it tulips?”   They are so delicate and you can buy them in virtually any color.  I am planting the dark purple tulips that almost look black and red with white tips.

Why Pisces Are Going to Rule Next Spring

Good Afternoon Breezles,

Pantone declared what the top 10 colors for Spring 2015 are and it is going to be the best spring for Pisces yet!  Not only is Aquamarine Pisces birth stone, but it’s also one of the signs main colors and Pantone just declared Aquamarine to be the best the lead color for women for the Spring/Summer 2015 season.   Scuba blue (a stimulating turquoise)  and classic blue (a calm royal blue) join Aquamarine in the top 10 colors as well as Custard (a soft yellow), Strawberry Ice (a pink that pops), Marsala (a light rose), Tangerine (a juicy orange), Lucite Green (a  dark mint), Toasted Almond (a warm brown) and Glacier Gray (a light, peaceful gray).   Scroll down to see all of the colors Pantone has confirmed to be the colors for Spring and which colors Pantone says pair with best one another.

Things to do this September

Good Morning Breezles,

After spending the weekend in the mountains I noticed how many trees are starting to change into their fall colors. It was gorgeous, but I am still not quite ready for the chilly temperatures, so I thought of a few things to get me excited for September.

Scroll down to see what I am planning doing this September and I would love to hear what your plans are for the next month.

Attend a College Football Game

I absolutely love college football and I get so excited thinking about all of the fun things associated with it. It’s a blast to dress up in your team’s colors, tailgate, see friends and just be there cheering on your favorite team.Whether they win or lose it is always a great time.

Take a Drive or Hike to Look at the Fall Colors

One of my favorite things to do with my husband and my dog is to take a long drive or hike just the three of us. It is so relaxing and it is nice to spend quality time with each other. There are so many gorgeous drives and hikes only minutes away from our home and it is fun to see the seasons change, especially in the fall when the trees are putting on their bright new colors.

 Go to the Fair

There always seems to be a fair during the month of September. My friends and I put on our cowgirl boots and go every year. We always check out the farm animals (the pigs are my favorites), ride on the big slide and play carnival games.

Shop for Your Fall Wardrobe

September is a huge month for fashion. The September issue is the biggest issue of the year for every major fashion magazine and this is the month for fashion weeks around the world. What a great time to start stocking up on everything that’s on trend for the fall season.

Plan your Garden for Next Spring

I have been told the best time to plant is spring and fall. I would like to have tulips and hydrangeas for next spring, so I am going to start planning this month and the planting next. Cooler temperatures make garden chores easier on you and your plants, so September should be a perfect month to begin planning.

One Year Anniversary

Good Morning Breezles,

This week my husband and I are celebrating our 1 year wedding anniversary.  I can’t believe it has been one year already because it went by so fast.  It has been a crazy year of getting married, buying a house and rescuing our amazing puppy Bella.  One of my closest friends is getting married the same weekend, so on our anniversary we are attending her wedding in the mountains and spending the night at a local ski resort.  We would like to do something just the two of us in a couple weeks and I would love to hear some of your ideas on what to do to celebrate our first year as a married couple.
